TRAINING & BACKGROUND

Born in Mexico City, Maria Antonieta Moreno de Bravo is a naturalized American artist, who has worked around the world as a dancer, educator and choreographer since 1989. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and a Master’s Degree in Theatre History and Criticism with a Minor in Dance Pedagogy. Since leaving Central America in 1979, she has studied, performed, and choreographed worldwide. Her most notable experiences during her own dance education were in London at The Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Dance. and in Essen/Werden Germany, teaching and training with the Folkwang Schule, Gymnasium Essen Werden and Pina Bausch’s Company in Wuppertal. She continues to research and train in new and inventive techniques in Austin TX and throughout Europe.

CHOREOGRAPHY

Bravo’s work as an independent choreographer consists of different dance styles including Contemporary Modern, Musical Theatre, Contemporary Ballet, Jazz, Nouveau-Latin, dances from many regions of the world, and dances from many historical periods. It is also inspired by Movement for Actors and Dance in Education philosophies.

Ms. Bravo "has been an exemplary force of action as a choreographer and as an arts educator in Austin for over 25 years" (http://bloomatx.wordpress.com/2013/02/22/toni-bravo-a-force-of-dance). Her work has receibed many awards in Austin and many other cities in Europe.

And she was recently inducted into the Austin Hall of Arts for her work with youth and dance artists of all ages and for her research in dance education and education through dance!

She is the founder and artistic director of DiverseSpace Dance Theatre and DiverseSpace Youth Dance Theatre (DSYDT.) DSYDT performs every Summer in Amsterdam and Berlin. Learn more…

TEACHING

Throughout Austin, Bravo teaches classes and workshops in Contemporary Ballet, Ballet Fitness, Contemporary Modern and DanceTheatre techniques. She developed the program “Leaps and No Bounds,” while working for Ballet Austin for over 25 years. Currently she teaches the “Learning to Dance, Dancing to Learn” program at Blackshear Fine Arts Elementary. The goal of these programs is to facilitate learning in the areas of math, science, social studies and language arts by providing an alternative kinesthetic method for instruction of academic curriculum. She has also directed the Dance in the Classroom program which brings the beauty and structure of Ballet to elementary school classrooms.
