CHOREOGRAPHY

Toni Bravo has exhibited her choreography around the world and developed commissioned pieces for a variety of organizations, individuals and companies.

RECENT Commissions:

  • In collaboration with Life Works and several of most well known dancers, singers, and designers in Austin. “A Glimpse of Heaven – With Eyes Closed” Street Connections, Reclaiming the humanity of people living on the streets by telling their stories — 2009

  • St. Edward’s - Romeo and Juliet:

“In this Romeo and Juliet the young persons are the story, and they carry the story. Riveting fight choreography by David Long literally thrusts young opponents at one another in a whirl of hostility, and Toni Bravo's design of the dance at the masquerade is stately and enchanting…” 2018 https://ctxlivetheatre.com/reviews/20180223-review-romeo-and-juliet-by-mary-moody-nor/

  • Dublin Youth Dance Company - Seventh Annual Residency at The Irish Youth Dance Festival - 2019,

  • The same year Bravo was inducted into The Austin Arts Hall of Fame:

“Her choreographic fusion of international traditions and movement vocabularies has expanded our understanding of dance.”

  • Austin Shakespeare - Jane Eyre, 2024. “The choreography, particularly in the scenes where characters ride coaches or embody animals, is imaginative and highly effective in bringing the audience closer to Jane's emotional landscape.”

  • THE VORTEX THEATRE- Mother Tree -2025 “The choreography by Toni Bravo, international dance artist and teacher, is nothing short of brilliant, seamlessly integrating lyrical and purposeful movement throughout the performance.” https://www.broadwayworld.com/austin/article/Review-MOTHERTREE-at-VORTEX-Theatre-20250403

  • ART SPARK OF TEXAS at ROSEDALE SCHOOL [for students with severe special needs]. “Tree Tales” - A performance about the Trees of Texas. Based on the Concept Driven format of “Mother Tree” by THE VORTEX THEATRE. This piece integrates two of Bravo’s main principles, That Dance is for everyone and Dance is a radiant art that touches what words cannot reach.

    My personal note as creator:
Awakening to the challenges facing our environment calls us to reflect on our history with trees—silent witnesses to our choices, shaped by the echoes of our thinking and the weight of our actions. Metaphorical expressions of our own natural development and our relationship to nature give us a stronger connection to nature and each other. Through these living symbols, we rediscover a deeper sense of belonging—and with it, a quiet call to care, to tend, to become stewards of Earth.
